Bring your preferences into the first design brief
For some families, Vastu is an important cultural or personal preference. Share the specific requirements with your architect early, alongside room needs, accessibility, parking and budget. That gives the design team a chance to explore a coherent plan rather than making late changes.
Vastu preferences should not be presented as scientific proof of structural safety, drainage direction, health effects or guaranteed prosperity. Engineering decisions require their own evidence and professional design.
Separate preferences from constraints
List the orientations or room positions you care about and mark which are flexible. Then review them against the plot, access, applicable planning requirements, natural light, shade, ventilation and privacy.
A south-facing street or an irregular boundary is a design condition to understand. It does not by itself determine whether a home can be comfortable or structurally sound.
Coordinate the whole layout
Room positions affect circulation, wet-area connections, storage and the structural grid. A staircase also needs safe dimensions and practical headroom. Decide these through coordinated design, not an isolated rule about a corner or the number of steps.
If you want a courtyard or double-height room, discuss its effect on the structure, waterproofing, drainage and maintenance. An apparently open space in a render can still require careful structural design.
Keep safety and permissions first
Do not remove or move a column, beam, wall or stair without the appropriate professional review. Existing buildings need assessment before alterations. Applicable building rules, safe services and drainage must remain part of the decision.
Ask for options
Where preferences conflict with a practical requirement, ask the architect to explain alternatives. A simple comparison of circulation, daylight, cost and compliance can make a family decision easier.
Bring a consolidated brief to the meeting so the project team receives one set of instructions. Record the agreed option before detailed engineering proceeds.
